Formed in 1990, the group's line-up includes vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones and drummer Danny Carey. Tool is an American alternative metal/progressive metal band from Los Angeles. Written by: Daniel Carey, Adam Jones, Maynard James Keenan, Paul M D'amour I hope the danger pulls you under and destroys you I hope the danger is overwhelming and destroys you Your lack of common sense and stubbornness lead you to danger Your stubbornness and foolishness put you in this situation You have no one to blame but yourself for the predicament you're in Why don't you remove yourself from harm's way while you still have the chance? You continue to struggle and suffer, despite the risks You put yourself in danger without any real reason to be there The consequences of your actions may lead to your destruction I hope the danger overwhelms and destroys you I hope it sucks you down, down, down, down When you are foolish, stubborn, and belligerent, you're more likely to put yourself in danger The situation you're in is dangerous and as risky as being lost in a swamp Why don't you take precautions to avoid harm? Why don't you pay attention to the risks you're taking? You are oblivious to the danger that surrounds you Your ignorance of my warning puts you in harm's way The song's chorus repeats the warnings and emphasizes the danger of the bog, while the verses describe the speaker's frustration. The speaker's warnings are based on a belief that the person they are speaking to is not using their common sense and is being reckless in their actions. The bog is a dangerous place that is easy to get lost in, and the speaker emphasizes the importance of being cautious and watching where one is going. The metaphor of the bog serves as a warning to the person who is ignoring the speaker's advice. The speaker is warning the person that the bog is thick and easy to get lost in, especially for a "stupid, dumb ass, belligerent fucker." The speaker expresses the hope that the person gets sucked down and does not come back again. He emphasizes that they are wading deeper and deeper into the bog. The speaker warns the person that they are dancing in quicksand and that they should watch where they are going. The lyrics to Tool's song "Swamp Song" are a warning to someone who is ignoring the advice of the speaker. 'Cause you're a dumbass, belligerent fucker 'Cause you're a stupid, belligerent fucker I hope it sucks, I hope it suck, I hope it suck downĪnd you still stumble and suffocate, suffocate I hope it sucks, I hope it suck, I hope it suck Why don't you watch where you're stumbling? Why don't you watch where you're wandering? This bog is thick and easy to get lost in They're two sides of the same coin which cannot exist without the other. When you're a stupid, dumb ass, belligerent fucker My reason for this is that without those bad things and people, there would be no reason to write suck beautiful music like this, and if you think about it with no bad there would be no good. ![]() Most people would disagree with me when I say that I would keep everything that is bad about life in life. I think that for not taking a warning seriously, Maynard feels no sympathy for the people who are getting sucked in. Dancing in quicksand just signifies how you may be enjoying yourself in life but you don't realize you're digging yourself into a problem, even after being warned. ![]() The thickness of the bog would probably be everything that is complicated in life, also showing how it would be easy to get lost in and of course there being no return. ![]() "no one even invited you in you still stumble in." This shows how the ignorant people in life are still born though uninvited. The "bog" being life, is easy to get lost in. I feel as though this song could be related to life. When you're a stupid, dumb ass, belligerent fucker ![]()
